Ostend Weekend 5 Days

Thursday 19th March to Monday 23rd March 2020

Four nights, five days, half board, five drinks per day free and excursions.

Ostend is a seaside resort with a stunning beach, shopping, great seafood, bars & casino. Ostend has been a firm favourite with the Belgian Royal Family and the rest of Belgium’s residents for years, hardly surprising given its individual charm, enticing stretch of seafront offering no less than five beaches, busy yacht harbour and gleaming, well landscaped parks. Other draws include bustling markets, shops a-plenty and a lively nightlife, the centrepiece of which is Ostend’s plush casino.

It is also a firm favourite with the members of ABC, who have been visiting this resort annually for over ten years.

During the day stretch your legs along the picturesque Albert I promenade, try out the pier’s fish and seafood stalls, or join the crowds in sunbathing. In addition, sit yourself down aboard Ostend’s miniature railway, take a horse drawn carriage ride through the city or catch Ostend’s smattering of parades, markets, festivals and fairs. By night, stroll the old fishermen’s quarter or gaze out to sea from the promenade’s line-up of restaurants.

If you have visited Ostend before you will have sampled the chicken at Koekoek, Langestraat 38 Famous for its cooked chickens, and there is nothing else to eat, they have to be tried. The whole bar has a chicken theme. Sit yourself down, order half a chicken each and enjoy with a glass of Rodenbach to wash it down. The chicken is spit roasted and served with plain bead. Grimbergen Blonde and Dubbel are available on draught, but are not as good with the chicken. The bottled beers range from Guinness to Duvel and Westmalle Dubbel and Trippel. On busy days, they open the upstairs area. The bar is ideal if you are in a rush for food as the chicken is on your table within seconds of ordering. Only a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Our excursion to Bruges, the ‘little Venice of the north’, offers the opportunity to explore the meandering canals and beautiful bridges, its cobbled alleyways and quiet tree lined squares.
